APPLICATIONS AND TRYOUT FOR THE 2024-2025 SEASON.

Our organization is dedicated to maintaining our esteemed reputation as one of Canada's premier officiating centers. The purpose of our tryout is to identify officiating prospects and maintain our pipeline of talented, passionate, and high performing officials. Due to the competitiveness of the program and current staffing levels, there are limited spots on staff available.  

1. If you are interested in applying to become a referee, please fill out and submit the application.

2. Attend the tryout and interviews on Tuesday June 11th, 2024. There is no cost to attend the tryout. 

The Tryout will be held on Tuesday June 11th at Elgin Barrow Arena.

Off Ice:
Ed's Room (Upstairs) from 6:30pm - 8:00pm

On Ice:
Elgin Barrow East from 8:00pm - 9:30pm


What you can expect on the date of tryouts:
- Overview of being a Referee at the Richmond Hill Hockey Referee's Association
- Icebreaker discussion
- Individual interviews
- On-Ice skill assessment and drills (skating, referee and hockey drills)
- Full-ice scrimmage
- Opportunity to ask questions to officiating leadership and current referees
- A highly competitive on-ice session with dozens of applicants 

YOU MUST BRING:
- Full hockey playing gear for the on-ice session including a hockey stick. Do NOT bring referee gear. 
- You will be given a tryout jersey to borrow prior to the on-ice session.

Thank you for your interest in the Richmond Hill Hockey Referees Association, we look forward to seeing you at the tryout. The tryout is expected to be highly competitive with dozens of applicants competing for a limited number of spots on staff. Individuals who are not hired may be offered recommendations to surrounding associations. The selections will be identified within 2 weeks post-tryout by the Referee in Chief. 

  • You will be required to attend an OMHA certification clinic as well as any RHHA development clinics IF hired. Do not sign up for a clinic until you have been hired.
  • All newly accepted referees will also be required be on the timekeeping staff for the upcoming season.

 

NOTE 1*  ALL APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT AN ONLINE APPLICATION PRIOR TO ATTENDING TRYOUTS

NOTE 2* THERE WILL BE NO ALTERNATE DATE FOR TRYOUTS AND NO EXCEPTIONS MADE FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO ATTEND

NOTE 3* APPLICANTS ARE REQUIRED TO BE AT LEAST 15 YEARS OF AGE BY DECEMBER 31st, 2024 IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR A REFEREE POSITION

NOTE 4* PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE A LIMITED NUMBER OF HIRES AND APPLICANTS ARE NOT GUARANTEED A POSITION ON STAFF. THE TRYOUT PROCESS IS COMPETITIVE. 

NOTE 5*  DO NOT BOOK A HOCKEY CANADA CLINIC UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE TRYOUT PROCESS AND YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED ON STAFF
